Mocha Java is one of the oldest recorded coffee blends in the world. Customarily, it is a blend of Yemen Mocha and Java Arabica. Over time people have developed their own versions of the blend, substituting other Indonesian coffees in place of the Java or other coffees from the Arabian Peninsula in place of the Mocha. It is hard to speak of the origin of commercial coffee without including the history of this famous blend. At the beginning of the 18th Century, the Dutch managed to cultivate coffee, after several attempt in Europe, in Ceylon (Sri Lanka) and then in Java. At that time, coffee was available only through a port in Yemen named Mocha or from Dutch inhabited Java. As the European elite began to delight in exotic luxuries, coffee became a favored drink. And what better way to display ones lavishness than to drink not one but both coffee varieties in the same cup?
